Description
SCARCE ITEM!This is USGS Professional Paper 729-D, “
Geology of Sedimentary Rocks in Southern Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
.” Published in 1975, this uncommon item describes the geologic setting and formations of this unusual area in the park. Unlike most of the park, which is covered in volcanic rocks, this part of the park has exposures of numerous older
sedimentary
formations that predate the volcanics. This nice glossy paper, 60-page report, comes complete with a beautiful colorful geologic map showing the various formations in their respective areas. The map measure 33 x 23 inches (w x h), and would look great framed and hung in business or home in the area.
For reference, Lewis Lake and the South Arm of Yellowstone Lake are along the northern part of the map. Heart lake is fully within the map. This would make a great field guide for anyone wanting to examine this area and understand its rocks. If you are a geologist, or really anyone, looking to visit the park and pass through the south areas, This would be a great item to have ahead of time and take with you to understand what you are seeing. There are several photos in the book of interesting exposures, including a two-page panorama that covers a great deal of the area. Printed on glossy paper, unlike most USGS reports.
I will continue to add new items to my st
ore, so check back periodically.
