    Description

St. Paul Union Depot Co. Mail Baggage Dept. 442 badge. This badge is one of two different styles.  The two holes allowed the mail baggage worker to fasten a cord to the badge so it could be worn around the neck.  The other style has no holes. This is the last one in this style that I have for sale. Approximately 2 3/4" wide and 1 3/4" tall. This badge was used when the majority of mail, letters and packages, moved from city to city by train.  According to Wikipedia during its heyday, the depot hosted the passenger trains of nine railroads and more than 20 million pieces of mail passed through the station and neighboring St. Paul Central Downtown Post Office annually. At its peak in 1920's, there were 282 train movements daily. Carefully shipped via USPS with tracking information.
