    Description

Millennium Shekel. Silver Tyrian Shekel First Century C. E.  KP Monogram attests to the mint of Jerusalem.  Phoenicia, Tyre. Graded by NGC at VF, Very Fine. Minted in the year of 126 of the Julian Calendar which is 1 BC / AD 1. The weight of the coin is 13.77 grams. It was put in a NGC(Numismatic Guaranty Corporation) scratch resistant slab/container. The last 8 pictures are really close ups I took and so I hope you can see if there is anything in particular you are looking for.  I found the following statement on a couple of web sites,   "With such a long-running series, it is only natural that some dates within the series would take on an added significance for collectors of ancients. For example, there is the so-called "millennium shekel," which was struck in civic year 126, or 1 BC/AD 1. This rare date, an example of which is shown here, commands a premium over any common date shekel of Tyre. The shekel of Tyre also has another connection with Biblical history. According to many historians, the "thirty pieces of silver" that Judas is said to have received for betraying Jesus, were in the form of shekels of Tyre."   The winning bidder in addition to receiving the coin will also get the original plastic show case which is 5 3/8 inches tall and 2 11/16 inches on all sides. The top of that case comes off of the bottom/inside piece. On that inside piece there was a ledge that the coin sat on but that ledge was broken off before I purchased it. The one picture shows the statement below that ledge. A prior owner purchased this coin from a coin shop in Jerusalem probably back in the mid 70's. I will mail this out in a USPS medium flat rate box, packaged well. Shipping is free. I will be doing signature confirmation which means that you will need to sign for it before they give it to you. I understand that the USPS will only insure up to ,000 and so I will be insuring this for this amount. I have sold high priced coins/bars in the past and I have a 100 % positive feedback rating. After doing a google search for this coin, I saw where an ungraded one sold for ,000 at an auction but it did not give any date when that took place. I am listing mine for more than that as I believe this coin is going up in value. Please feel free to ask any questions. I am now offering local pickup and for this the buyer will need to pay this on ebay/paypal prior to pickup.
