    Description

This sturdy Dutch bread knife was hand carved in the late 1800's and has a blade made by the Solingen, Germany blade making firm; Rich. Abr. Herder.  It appears to be carved from wood, with the word "Brood" (means "Bread" in Dutch) carved into one side of the handle, and an oak leaf and flourishes carved into the other.  The tops of the letters 'O' and 'D' have been worn away from use, and the blade shows signs of wear (corrosion in places and scratches from use) that are in keeping with its age.  The blade is somewhat dull and needs to be sharpened before use.  This is a beautiful piece of European history to use or display.
The knife measures about 13 inches (32.5 cm) and the widest point of the handle is about 1 1/8 inches (~3cm) in diameter.
