Description
1884 Brotherhood of Locomotive ENGINEERS JOURNAL full year hard cover railroad train book.
Seems to be one of the rarest early railroad train books and is all but
impossible to find especially in great condition like this. Hard cover book
is 768 pages and includes the entire year of the Monthly Journal published
by the Union Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Each month has an
average of 64 pages with the back section of each mostly dedicated to
advertisements.
Book contains a wealth of information on the railroad industry in the early
1880’s also pages and pages of old advertisements for everything from
Baldwin and Pittsburgh Locomotives to Post Head Lights, Cowell
Platform & Coupling Co., Rockford Railroad Watches and Paige Car
Wheels and Armstrong Regalia & Uniforms & Caps and much more.
It’s difficult to describe adequately the range of contents in this book...
articles, stories, opinions, obituaries, technical information, travel info,
railroad company network and personnel details, legal info + more more.
Suffice to say that any serious American Railroad historian needs to own this.
Book is in remarkable condition for being 137 years old, clean, complete,
no marks, damp or foxing and the binding is good. There are no other
original copies available on the internet that I could find and it will certainly
increase in value going forward..
